Candidate Qualifications

This position requires reading, writing and math skills comparable to those of a high school education, and a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in plant operations, including three years of supervisory experience, or in lieu of plant operations experience, completion of a college degree in chemical engineering or a related discipline plus a minimum of three years of related experience is required. A thorough knowledge of plant operations, good verbal and written communications skills and sound human relations skills are required in this position.

Job Description

Position is responsible for the day-to-day operations in a designated production unit, under the direction of the Operations Manager. Also, the position is responsible for meeting established goals for production, safety, quality, environmental and housekeeping in a cost effective manner. Instructs production supervisors regularly concerning continuance of operation on a 24-hour basis. Specific responsibilities include:

OPERATIONS EXECUTION:

  • Direct and prioritize production activities.
  • Responsible for achieving production goals within the expense budget, which includes cost of maintaining equipment, raw materials usage, hourly overtime and safety operating supplies.
  • Provide input, control and monitor area budgets and initiate corrective actions to eliminate negative variances.

MAINTENANCE INVOLVEMENT:

  • Audit safe work permits and ensure safe work practices are followed.
  • Ensure coordination between production and maintenance plans.

PROCESS PARAMETER MANAGEMENT:

  • Ensure that manufacturing equipment is operating within specifications to retain and improve compliance with ISO certification.
  • Monitor and document process operating parameters to achieve quality assurance and improve process efficiencies.

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT:

  • Support and maintain the plant safety program through day-to-day safety contacts with employees and department safety meetings, ensure assigned work areas are safe, SAP requirements are observed and reports submitted.
  • Ensure area is in environmental compliance in accordance with EAP and ensure timely submission of all reports.

TEAM MANAGEMENT/IMPROVEMENT:

  • Effectively deal with employee relations issues, including writing performance appraisals, staffing and managing the progressive disciplinary process.
  • Plan and execute training plans for team leaders and ensure that cross training activities are maximized.

ASSIGNED REPORTING:

  • Ensure documentation is submitted for deviations from accepted operating practices.
  • Monitor work schedules and review overtime.
  • Compile and post production statistics. Coordinate with PTS, quality, plant engineering and maintenance engineering in trouble shooting area of concerns and for development and improvement of area quality and procedures.
