Australian Sites Celebrate Three Decades

Tronox’s Cooljarloo Mine and Chandala Processing Plant turn 30 this year, and employees celebrated with a community Open Day.

Approximately 500 people turned out for the occasion and it was formally opened by Victor Woodley, a Yued man, who gave a traditional Welcome to Country – a ceremony performed by Aboriginal groups at the start of formal gatherings. Attendees included community members and stakeholders who enjoyed site tours and were able to visit various interactive booths and displays created by Tronox personnel, contractors and municipal partners. Festivities also included service anniversaries for employees who had reached thirty-year tenures, as well as a donation to the Perth Children’s Hospital.

Also in attendance were neighbors and groups of local students. They enjoyed standing next to a huge dozer, learning about Tronox’s award-winning rehabilitation program, touching machinery and the various feedstock products. They also visited baby kangaroos up close, which was a very popular part of the day. The students were able to see the site’s Emergency Response Team slice the door off a car to rescue a trapped dummy and got to experience a dozer simulator – just like driving the real thing.
