Tronox Response to COVID-19
Apr 8, 2020 - InsightsAs we follow the increasing spread of COVID-19 across the globe, Tronox continues to carefully monitor the potential impacts to our operations. Our team is working tirelessly to ensure that our employees remain healthy and that our facilities are operating in order to meet our customer’s needs.
We are working together across our business to minimize any disruptions while complying with or exceeding all local governmental guidance and orders.
Protecting Our Employees
We have taken a number of actions to ensure the health and safety of our employees. Our contingency planning includes various scenarios, such as the potential for workforce reductions due to illness. At the onset of the pandemic, we restricted travel for all of our employees, asked those who can work remotely to do so, installed wellness checkpoints at our entrances, restricted visitors, increased sanitization procedures, and took other proportionate precautions. Employees showing any flu-like symptoms are being asked not to come to work, and employees who may have come into contact with any known or suspected COVID-19 cases are required to stay home and self-monitor their health.
Serving Our Customers
Many of our customers are directly involved in the manufacture of products and components that are essential to protecting workers and patients alike against the coronavirus. We are committed to supplying our titanium dioxide and titanium chemicals products, which are the building blocks for many of these materials. We are carefully managing all aspects of our business, from the procurement of supplies needed for production to the reliability of our logistics providers to the protection our workforce.
Supporting Our Communities
As a major employer in most of the communities where we operate, we recognize that the outward approach to this public health crisis is as important as our internal response. Where possible, we are supporting our local communities.
- In Bahia, Brazil, the Tronox team donated money for ventilator production.
- At our Broken Hill mining operation in Australia, a local hospital was in desperate need of P2 facemasks to get their hospital personnel through the weekend before their mask order arrived. Tronox was able to provide 8-10 boxes from our inventory.
- In South Africa, we developed COVID-19 wellness information pamphlets for our employees and contractors and then learned there was a need for this information in the broader community. In response to the community request, we produced additional pamphlets for broad distribution. Tronox also made a donation to the South African Solidarity Fund to support vulnerable South Africans and to help contain the spread of COVID-19.
These are just a few examples of how we are supporting beyond our own operations.
It is clear that we all find ourselves in unusual circumstances with the coronavirus pandemic. Never before have we been directed by our governments, everywhere we operate, to stay home and/or distance ourselves from other people. This has had a major impact on our operations: health monitoring, sanitization and precautionary measures, work roster adjustments and teleworking. We take our designation as an essential business during these trying times very seriously. We are keenly aware that our customers require our products to produce life-protecting, life-monitoring and life-saving products—products essential to seeing the global community through this difficult time. Keeping our business going—by working together—is how Tronox is making a difference.
