HENDERSON, Nev. – Gordon McCaw Elementary School, with club sponsor Tronox, hosted a kick-off party to celebrate the school’s robotics program yesterday in the McCaw multipurpose room. Students and parents had the opportunity to meet Tronox engineers, robotics team members and instructors and the award winning Basic High School Robotics Team demonstrated their robots to attendees. Tronox is the main sponsor of the robotics club and will present a $1, 500.00 check to McCaw to purchase robotics software and supplies for the club.
Henderson Councilwoman Debra March, Tronox Henderson Plant Manager Rick Stater, McCaw Principal, Jennifer Furman-Born and Vice Principal, Wendy Hale and Basic High School Robotics Instructor Mark Reed were present to welcome students and speak about the importance of educational opportunities, like the robotics club, for Henderson students.
“It is important to our community to offer these programs to students at an early age,” said Henderson Councilwoman March. “I applaud Tronox for sponsoring this program and and thank McCaw and its teachers for setting an amazing example for students in our community. These experiences and knowledge will help shape students’ lives for years to come.”
“We are proud to be involved with the McCaw Robotics Club,” said Stater. “Having the opportunity to connect with students on this level is something we all really enjoy. We are happy to sponsor the program and hope that this opportunity will allow these students to learn something new, get excited about math and science and have fun while building their robots.”
